Meet the Owners

Matt and Lindsey Miller are Billings natives who met in high school and have been happily married for more than 24 years. Together, they are proud parents of a daughter and a son, and they've built both a family and a dream rooted in their hometown.
Drawing on backgrounds in retail, hospitality, technology, management, and finance, Matt and Lindsey bring a unique blend of experience to every aspect of 1889 Brewing Company. Their combined knowledge has helped shape not only the business, but also the welcoming atmosphere that makes the brewery feel like home.
Matt's passion for craft beer began more than 17 years ago as a homebrewer. He has served as both Secretary and President of the Rimrock Brewers Guild and has competed in numerous homebrewing competitions throughout Montana, Wyoming, and across the country.
Opening 1889 Brewing Company was a dream more than a decade in the making. Throughout the years, Matt and Lindsey made a point of visiting local breweries everywhere they traveled, gathering inspiration from each stop along the way. Every detail of the taproom reflects those experiences and their vision of creating a brewery where people feel comfortable, connected, and excited to return.
One thing you won't find at 1889 is a lengthy list of permanent flagship beers. Instead, the selection is designed to be dynamic, offering a wide variety of fresh, rotating styles that give you something new to discover with every visit. They carefully listen to guests' feedback and preferences, allowing the most-loved beers to naturally earn their place as future favorites.
Above all, Matt and Lindsey set out to create more than just a brewery—they wanted to build a neighborhood gathering place where great beer, great people, and great memories come together.
